My design could be used as a 10 round mag, but due to the freedom associated with 3D printing or any other home fabrication technique, a user residing in one of those restricted states could potentially print one of the extensions and be in possession of an illegal magazine. While to me, and most likely all of you in this group, a 3D printable magazine is merely one more part of the AR platform we can 3D print and show off to our buddies when we peacefully enjoy our sport, to some who haven't grown up with these fun machines and have resulting fears of the unknown, they can be scary. I just don't want to endanger this group or our beloved users and creations to the wrath of an overzealous admin. It is supposed to snap together in order to align itself properly in an innovative manner! A novel idea right?. This allows printing of any capacity desired as long as you can find a suitable spring, as well as the ability to replace a broken shell on a 30 round magazine without requiring the taller-than-regular-Makerbot Z-height on your printer to print a 30 rounder in one go. I’ve made handles for 1mm Allen keys, handles for hex nuts I wouldn’t otherwise bother making, magazine followers, fixtures for holding parts at oddball angles in a Bridgeport, and plenty of other junk that never worked but were neat ideas.So I ordered a commie 10-rounder AR mag for bench rest shooting when I don't need all 30 rounds to get in the way and I'm debating posting my "nth round magazine" composed of stacks of 10 round segments I made a while back. Inventor is my favorite there’s way more info out there on how to use it than it’s counter parts. I love both programs, and was using HSM (inventor cam now.) as my sole CAM until CAMworks (Solidworks cam now.) got their post straightened out for Fanuc. Same with Autodesk Inventor: I get my copy for free for being a FIRST robotics mentor. You can get it super cheap as a “I’m a business that doesn’t make money” thing. I got Solidworks student for $20 with a military discount. It’s expensive, but if I thought whatever I was printing could sell, that’s the way I’d go.Ī few little known CAD deals: all of the big names have ways of getting their software either cheap or free.
